...and no, this won't be a depressing journal entry, I promise.

I'm sure most people have wondered about this at some point. I've been thinking about creating my own OCs. And I don't mean OCs for an existing show. I mean REAL OCs, like :iconmontatora-501:'s BurtonBerg, or :iconnerdsman567:'s Marilyn. OCs that have their own worlds, instead of being part of an existing one (which explains why, until recently, I don't have a Pony OC). However, despite my drawing skills (and if you haven't seen them, check them out to see what I'm talking about loudnoises.deviantart.com/gall…), I have two great ideas based on one subject that I'd love to bring to life: an animated version of the US cooking show 'Good Eats' for Australian audiences. Why? Because 'Good Eats' was never shown in Australia (until recently when SBS teamed up with Food Network to create SBS Food Network, a new free to air channel in Australia), and I know, we have shows with Heston Blumenthal, but he's British, so that doesn't count.

As someone who has NEVER drawn an OC before, is there some sort of plan before drawing OCs, or do I draw then before I go into details?

I'm also thinking of setting up a poll regarding my two ideas for my Australian animated version of 'Good Eats', but I thought I'd share them here, just in case I get a good response to this journal. These two ideas are:
1. - a young wanna-be chef attends an all-cooking school where she learns the science of cooking and goes on all sorts of adventures related to whatever food subject it is.
2. - a young runaway girl finds shelter at the home of a former TV chef of whom the runaway girl admired as a child, where she learns all that is to know about cooking.

Now, regardless of which one works best, the show will have a female protagonist, and the episodes (if I ever get THAT far) will be about a certain subject regarding cooking and food, whether it's finding the right frying pan, different types of doneness on meat or how to cook pancakes. I'm still not sure if I should tailor this to kids or not, because on the one hand, it's animation, and I'm certain there are some executives who thinks animation is just for kids, and would want to tailor to that. On the other hand, I don't want kids handling dangerous items in the kitchen and risk hurting themselves.

So what do you guys think? Despite my drawing 'skills', should I still start drawing some OCs?

I like the sound of 2, it has a lot of potential for story and background. Unless you want to do 1 that is. You can choose whatever you want!
